Acupuncture
Acupuncture Overview
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine-based form of alternative medicine. It is used to treat a variety of conditions by triggering specific point on the skin with needles. The needles are as thin as a strand of hair. Acupuncture has been practiced for over 2,500 years and it is not an overtly painful procedure you may be imagining. It’s said to be able to treat everything from depression and allergies to morning sickness and cramps.
Acupuncture was originally meant to prevent medical conditions, but we now know today it can be used to help relieve a number of different medical conditions. Acupuncture is highly individualized and is a different course of treatment for each person. There are so many benefits of Acupuncture, the most popular are depression, headaches, migraines, neck pain, knee pain, sciatica, tennis elbow, sore throat, rheumatoid arthritis, and so much more. Overall it promotes relaxation, improves sleep, boosts your energy, and decreases muscoskeletal pain.
Ear Acupuncture Auriculotherapy
Auriculotherapy refers to acupressure or acupuncture applied to the ear. In our practice, we use auriculotherapy to treat a wide variety of health conditions- literally, anything from head to toe (and all systems in between) can be addressed!
The ear is a complete microsystem. On the external ear, there are acupuncture points that correspond to every part of the body, making it a self-contained system of treatment within the whole body. While originally based on the ancient practices of Chinese Medicine, the correspondences of specific parts of the body to specific parts of the ear was first developed in modern France. This integrated system of Chinese and Western practices of auriculotherapy brings us to its modern day application in practice.
*** The points on the ear were organized very similarly to an inverted fetus as it would be resting in the womb: head towards the lobe, feet towards upper rim of ear, and body in the middle.
Scalp Acupuncture
Scalp Acupuncture, also known as Neuroacupuncture, is a treatment based on knowledge of traditional acupuncture and neurology. It is done by inserting acupuncture needles into loose areolar tissue layer of the scalp to stimulate the brain neurons of the underlying area. Since the skull protects the brain and there are no organs in the scalp to injure it is a very safe treatment. Scalp Acupuncture works by stimulating the brain cells that are related to the impaired functions.
Scalp Acupuncture is effective for treating neurological disorders, pain, and movement problems.
There is good clinical evidence for the effectiveness of Scalp Acupuncture as a treatment.
